Ingredients:
Shrimp, thawed if frozen
3 tsp salt, divided
mixing spoon
Directions:
Defrost, peel, and devein your shrimp if necessary.
Add all shrimp to a large mixing bowl.
Add 1 tsp of salt to the shrimp bowl.
Mix vigorously for 1 minute.
Rinse with water thoroughly.
Remove and drain all water from the shrimp bowl.
Repeat 2 more times for a total of 3 salt mixing and rinsing.
Cook as normal. If boiling, add additional aromatics into the boiling water for additional scent neutralization. I like to add a few sliced lemons or limes, a bay leaf, and 1 tbsp whole black peppercorns.
FAQ:
Q: Why does my shrimp smell fishy to begin with?
With all seafood, the fresher the seafood, the less chance of it having a fishy odor. 99% of the time, all of my frozen shrimp will have this issue, which is why I will use the 3x salt rinse method.
Q: What do you make with boiled shrimp?
Since I am on a minor weight loss journey, I’ve been loving boiled shrimp in rice paper with a peanutty sauce, similar to Vietnamese rice rolls but with only shrimp. Super yummy and a light lunch I enjoy frequently!
